Pre-K Week 3

MONDAY
We were running a little late because I didn't get up until 7:00 but she still made it there by 7:35.  She didn't end up falling asleep at rest time so she must have been rested up from sleeping in. It was close to 80 degrees out and sunny. After my Mom got home from work I took the kids to my parents house so we could walk up to the ponds.

TUESDAY
In the Morning after drop off they had a parent meeting. It was pretty boring and kind of pointless in my opinion but they are probably required. In the evening we went to Open house. That was also kind of pointless, lol. But she showed us around her room and had a snack. That was about it.

WEDNESDAY
I didn't end up sending her because before bed she was running a 101 temp. She said her throat hurt but it didn't look red. She has had a cough so I think that might be making her throat hurt. She stayed in her Nightgown all day and just relaxed at home watching cartoons and playing with her sister and brother.

THURSDAY
Gabby didn't go to school again today. She woke up with a terrible croupy cough and could hardly catch her breath. She was gasping for air so I got her out of bed and put her in the warmest shower she could stand. I left her in there for about 25 minutes and when I got her out she was breathing a lot better. We took her in to see the doctor and they gave her a breathing treatment and an oral steroid she has to take for 3 days. She sounded a lot better after having the treatment done.

FRIDAY
No school again today. Gabby is still coughing and not feeling her best so she stayed home again. Hopefully she will be better by Monday.

A Beautiful Day!

Today was so nice! We don't get very many hot days in September! This afternoon I took the kids to my parents house and we walked up to the ponds! Great exercise and lots of fun with beautiful scenery!

Pre-K week 2

MONDAY
Monday was Avalynn's last day going. She screamed the whole day. When I went to pick her up she was sleeping on a teacher's lap and her face was broke out and beat red from crying so hard. They said she cried the entire day. I couldn't do that to her anymore. She seems too emotionally immature to be there. She just turned 3 and always has next year to go. I don't feel it is fair to her, the teacher or the other kids for her to be screaming all day long. It is disruptive and really how much can she be learning sitting on a teacher's lap crying all day.  I am a stay at home mom so there is no reason why she shouldn't stay home with me. Some people have kind of made me feel bad for my decision but she is my child and I feel this is best for her at this time.

Tuesday
It was "Dads bring the kids to school day." So Kevin took her and he stayed and played with her for about a half hour. Gabby had a great day at school. Nathan and Avalynn went with me when I picked her up. She was still asleep when we got there and I put Nathan down to wake her up. She liked that and started hugging him.  She came home with her clothes full of paint again but it must be washable paint because it keeps washing out.
Wednesday
Gabby was still sleeping when I picked her up. She was kind of grumpy but was better when we got home.

Thursday
I took Gabby to school and she was wearing her cute Boston Terrier dress. Today is also the first day she changed her earrings since getting them pierced. We didn't have any dogs that match so she chose some kitty's to wear. She told me when she got home that they checked her eyes and blood pressure in school today. I am going to ask them tomorrow if I will get the results of those. They never even told me they were doing that.

Friday
Kevin took Gabby into school. I went and picked her up in the afternoon. It never seems like there are very many kids there. I asked one of the teacher's how many kids they have and she said only 10 right now. There are 3 teacher's and one aide who helps one little special needs girl. So 4 adults with 10 kids.

*I am Still not regretting pulling Avalynn out. She still says every morning that she doesn't want to go. I have been playing memory game with her and she likes to write and draw every day. I think she just needs more free time then she was getting there. She is a very active child and needs to move around a lot!

Slow cooker Apples & Squash

Tried this new recipe today. It was really good!

Ingredients:

  • 5 pounds butternut squash
  • 4 cooking apples
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground mace, cinnamon, or a combination

Preparation:

Cut squash in half and remove seeds, soft pulp, and fibers; peel and cut in 1/2-inch slices. Peel and core the apples; cut in 1/2-inch slices. Combine the melted butter, sugar, flour, salt and mace or cinnamon. Layer half of the butternut squash in the bottom of the crockpot; top with one half of the apple slices and half of the sugar and spice mixture. Repeat layers. Cover and cook on HIGH for 1 hour, then switch to LOW and cook 3 to 5 hours longer, or until butternut squash is tender.

* I cut the recipe in half and cooked on low 6 hours.I wouldn't cook it any longer then that.

Pre-K Week 1

MONDAY
Both girls were so excited to start school. They did really well. When I got there Avalynn was laying on her nap mat and crying really hard. The teacher said she was okay until they tried to wake her up.

TUESDAY
The girls were again excited to go to school. The teacher called me around 11:45 and said Avalynn was crying and they didn't know what was wrong. She wanted to know if the spots she had on her back were there when she came to school because they thought she might have gotten into something. They were there before and I think they are bug bites. I called back a half an hour later and she was sleeping.

WEDNESDAY
The girls were both happy about going to school. I was afraid Avalynn wouldn't want to go because of crying the day before but she was okay when I left her. When we came to pick them up they were both asleep and when we woke them up they had a snack. The teacher said Avalynn had cried when she had to come inside from playing and also when it was time to lay down for nap but otherwise she seemed to have a great day. Gabby loves going and she kept asking me when I was going to leave. When we picked her up she said she wished she could stay forever, lol.

THURSDAY
Avalynn woke up with a low grade fever and was complaining her stomach and throat hurt so she didn't go to school. Gabby went and had a great day! They had home made playdough out and she played with that when I dropped her off.

FRIDAY
Day 5 Avalynn still didn't feel too good so I kept her out again. She keeps saying she never wants to go back. Gabby again had a great day!

I Love Oxiclean Max Force!!

Avalynn wore her favorite dress to Pre-K today and of course she ended up painting. I think she might have painted the dress too! But Oxiclean Max force spray saved the day! I love this stuff!

First day of "School"

I applied for my girls to go to Head Start back in the spring but they told us we make too much money and are over the income level. So then they said that 10% of kids who go can be over the level IF they fill the spots with the under income kids first. So about 2 weeks ago I got a letter saying that the girls would not be able to go because they ended up not having any room and the waiting list was still really long. But then last Thursday I had a voice mail on my phone saying that they are starting on Monday and they need me to give them updated physicals from the doctor.  So I called back and they said it must have been a mistake that they sent the letter.  Friday Morning a Lady came to our apartment and we finished up all the paper work. One thing I am really happy about is that they are in the same class. Avalynn has a speech delay and Gabby can understand her when most other people cannot so I feel better knowing that she can help the teachers know what Avalynn needs. Avalynn has been evaluated for speech and we are waiting to find out what will be done for her. We stayed with them for about 45 minutes when Kevin Made me leave. The girls didn't seem to mind at all that we left them. I hope they have a great day and I can't wait until 1:15 when I get to pick them up!

Never Forget 9-11-01

Never Forget all the innocent people who lost their lives that day
and all of the U.S. Soldiers who have lost their lives since fighting for our freedom.
9-11-01 NEVER FORGET

Here is a Blog I wrote in 2009 about where I was that day.

9 Months

Nathan turned 9 Months old on September 3rd. Time is going Way too fast!!! I cannot believe my baby is 3/4 of the way through his first year already! How can it be?

He had his check up today and he is doing great! He is 20 pounds even and in the 50% for both height and weight. He didn't have to get any shots, YAY!

He is pulling himself up now, can hold onto things and take a couple of steps. He says "dada" "mama", "Hi" and sometimes "Bye, Bye".

His new nickname is screechy because he loves to screech and be heard! He does it all the time, even when he is as happy as can be!

He is a really good eater! He eats 3 jars of baby food a day, some bites of table food and still nursing.
